EPA Section 608 Certification

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) offers Section 608 Certification to technicians who demonstrate the proper knowledge and handling of HVAC chemicals, including refrigerants like R-22 and R-410A.

Certification and Safety provides access to EPA Section 608 Certification through a closed-book exam, covering all required material under 40 CFR Part 82 Subpart F. Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% to receive their wallet-sized EPA Certification card.

Types of EPA Certifications offered:

• Type I: Servicing small appliances.
• Type II: Servicing or disposing of high-pressure appliances (except small appliances and MVACs).
• Type III: Servicing or disposing of low-pressure appliances.
• Universal Certification: Awarded upon passing all four sections.

Candidates must pass the Core section plus one or more specific Type sections to earn their certification. If a candidate passes only some sections, retesting is required only for the sections not passed.

📚 For HVAC Technical Academy Students:

Students enrolled at HVAC Technical Academy can access EPA Prep sessions and initial EPA testing as part of their workshop program.

🛠️ For Non-Workshop Attendees:

If you are not enrolled at HVAC Technical Academy and wish to:

• Attend EPA Prep only.
• Attend EPA Prep and take the proctored Universal EPA Exam.
• Take the Universal EPA Exam only.

We offer monthly proctored Universal EPA Exams at our Sanford, Florida facility.

NATE Certification

NATE (North American Technician Excellence) Certification is one of the most recognized credentials in the HVAC industry, symbolizing a technician’s professionalism, advanced knowledge, and commitment to quality workmanship.

Certification and Safety, through our partnership with 2nd Chance University, is a registered proctor for NATE certification exams at our Sanford, Florida location.

• NATE certification opens doors to higher earning potential and career advancement.
• Candidates must first pass the Core Exam, followed by a Specialty Exam (e.g., Air Conditioning, Heat Pumps, Gas Heating).
• Costs associated with NATE certification exams are the sole responsibility of the candidate.
